On Track & On Target | The right speed for the road: Quartix pitches in

On Track & On Target | The right speed for the road: Quartix pitches in.

Vehicle tracking company Quartix has developed a new method of assessing safe road speeds for more accurate identification of riskier driving styles.

Exactly how fast is it safe to travel on any given stretch of road? Remarkably, there seems to be little information out there on this subject. Speed limits tell you how fast it is legal to drive; but it appears that there is no formal, consolidated database of speed limits for the whole of the UK. In any case, legal limits don’t necessarily indicate speeds that are appropriate in the real world.

The team at telematics company Quartix felt that there was a need for something more, and realised that with their extensive history of tracking vehicles in real time, they were in a very good position to provide it.

The result is a new database that they consider a unique resource – a Safe Speed database.

Rising fuel costs: How does it affect you?

Rising fuel costs: How does it affect you?

FairFuelUK presented a report to 10 Downing Street last Wednesday prepared by the Centre for Economics and Business Research.

The study claims a cut in fuel duty of 2.5p per litre would create 180,000 new jobs, without costing the Treasury anything.

The pressure group, which said drivers in Britain are paying the highest fuel taxes in Europe, then held a mass lobby of MPs.

Fuel prices have been rising steadily for years, with petrol now reaching a record high of 138p per litre and diesel at 145p.

OLYMPICS – Transport for London Freight Advice Workshops.

TfL are organising a series of workshops to help transport operators to prepare for road closures that will be taking place as part of the Olympics.  Obviously Park Royal is a target and they will be holding a number of workshops designed for Transport Managers in this area.

No holidays for London’s professional drivers until after London 2012 Olympics

vehicle-removal.jpgIn common with many of Londons transport service companies Swift Vehicle Recovery have cancelled all driver leave until after the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games.

Director Daniel Blackwood told David Higgins, “If there is a car that needs transporting then I am the man to do it!”

“This is going to be an extremely busy time for us and we have planned and invested heavily in our equipment and resources to be sure that we maintain a high level of service for our clients.”

With a fleet of 30 vehicles ranging from 3.5 tonnes to 16 tonnes Edmonton based Swift Vehicle Recovery are ideally placed to play their part in keeping London moving during the games.

Smart go VIP

SMART RELOCATIONS
Discretion, professionalism and a friendly approach provides VIP clients with a first class moving service whether they are moving locally, nationally or internationally.
Director Michael Alexander says:

“Our VIP moving service caters for high profile individuals from backgrounds in TV, music, sports, politics and media. We understand that for people in the public spot light moving home can be a daunting prospect which is why our VIP service is completely confidential, even our crews are not informed until the morning of the move as to who is the client.

Our friendly and understanding approach coupled with our experience and expertise in handling high value items of furniture and fine arts makes us a firm favorite amongst our VIP clients.

Our  personnel are unobtrusive and will never request  photos, autographs or ask any awkward questions. They treat all our clients with the same level of respect.

To avoid unwanted attention if requested we can carry out your move in plain removal vans with non- uniformed staff . We can also arrange your move on weekends or during the evening if so required.

We can also organise full high level security services to shield clients from un wanted attention and to escort our vehicles in transit. For clients who employ their own security teams we will liaise with your head of security to ensure a smooth operation from start to finish.”

TFL to apply dust suppressants to Euston Rd

Dust suppressants bind dust to the ground and prevent it from rising back into the atmosphere.

This looks like a really  good idea which according to the study seems to work and hopefully will be adopted on more major urban routes.

Curated by Stuart Semple

MINDFUL is an exhibition and arts festival at the Old Vic Tunnels launching with a gala dinner and auction at Imperial War Museum. The project, initiated & curated by British artist and Mind Ambassador Stuart Semple in collaboration with creative directors of Old Vic, will raise money for the new creative therapies fund within Mind, the leading mental health charity in England and Wales.

Mind creative therapies fund: The Mind creative therapies fund was initiated in 2011 by artist Stuart Semple to fund projects enabling those experiencing mental ill health to explore creative forms of expression. This group show of world-class contemporary art will chart the link between mental health and creativity whilst pin-pointing it’s cathartic potential for both viewer and artist alike. Sales will kick-start a fund set to enable those in mental distress throughout England and Wales to participate in arts therapy sessions. The exhibition itself will be open to the public and will encourage people to question their own views on and associations with mental illness while helping to break down the stigma and discrimination so often faced by sufferers. Stuart, who has an ongoing anxiety disorder himself, understands first-hand the transformative potential of the arts. “The whole point of instigating this fund is to enable others access to the therapeutic potential of creative expression, people who may not have the chance, encouragement, or resources to do so otherwise”.

Includes works by: Jake & Dinos Chapman, Mona Hatoum, Tracey Emin, Mat Collishaw, Sebastian Horsley, Liliane Lijn, Sarah Lucas, George Lilanga, Barney Bubbles, Whitney McVeigh, Tom Wilkinson, Kate Moross, Tessa Farmer, Ellie Rees, Seana Gavin and Stuart Semple.
